The Other Side

The rear facades of these Sydney terrace houses form a familiar yet often unobserved urban landscape, where function overshadows presentation. In contrast to the street-facing charm on the front, the back-lane view reveals a more utilitarian architecture with it’s many boxes of modifications - almost abstract in its composition. Contemporary needs have expanded these once workers’ cottages into layered family homes. The “other side” of our houses often display how we adapt, inhabit and ultimately share our living spaces.
