The Hopetoun Hotel, affectionately known as “The Hoey”, closed in 2009 as one of Sydney’s few remaining live-band pubs. For over a decade it hosted iconic Australian bands and musicians in an intimate, no-frills setting. Despite being heritage-listed, the 190-year-old Surry Hills pub has been sitting empty for 17 years, an architectural and cultural icon boarded-up and abandoned.
This painting is framed with a Tasmanian oak float frame, hand made by the artist.
