The juxtaposition of the "haves" and "have-nots" in the gentrification of inner-city suburbs. The decaying warehouse, once the artist’s domain now, is now traded like gold by developers. Hiding in the shadows are those who need social assistance but cannot help themselves, while across the road are those who look after themselves but don't look around the corner. Sometimes we pretend not to see. Sometimes we choose not to hear. Sometimes we prefer to hide. And sometimes we decide to act. If not now then when? If not you then who?
This painting has been considerably reworked since I first exhibited it. Sometimes I find it hard to leave a painting alone when hanging on my studio wall!
This painting is framed with a custom Tasmanian oak float frame.
